The Philip Zoubek Trio was formed in 2016 out of the idea of formulating an independent approach to the traditional instrumentation of piano-bass-drums. Each of the musicians has a broad musical horizon, ranging from current improvisation to jazz and new music. The dissolution of traditional role relationships is at the forefront of the trio’s work, as is the leveling of improvisation and composition. Based on complex and multi-layered rhythms, the trio’s music is highly energetic, driving, virtuosic, at times playful, and captivates with a musical edge rarely heard with such intensity.
