This trio plays some great lush improvised music with beautiful ringing overtones. Excellent.

Mit subsurface legt das Berliner Label schraum eine weitere wohlklingende deutsch-kanadische Kooperation vor. Die nunmehr elfte schraum-CD dokumentiert das erste Zusammentreffen von Nils Ostendorf (Trompete), Philippe Lauzier (Altsaxophon, Bassklarinette) und Philip Zoubek (präpariertes Klavier).

Die drei Musiker aus Berlin, Köln und Montreal spielen mit der Physikalität ihrer Instrumente, verwenden sie als Generatoren von Geräuschen und Tönen. Erweiterte Spieltechniken, das Bewusstsein für Resonanzen und Obertöne, lassen ihre Instrumente zu einem organischen Klang verschmelzen, der pulsiert, sich zu einem polyphonen Geflecht aufbaut, um im nächsten Moment in einer Schwebung zu erstarren. Der intuitive Umgang mit Dichte und Dynamik, kombiniert mit dem bewussten Einsatz von Stille und Dauer, sowie das Aufeinanderprallen individueller Spielweisen resultieren in einer spannungs-geladenen, unerhörten Musik.
